How To Make Your Garage Door Pet Friendly
If you’re an animal lover and share your home with one or more cats, dogs, hamsters or other cuddly creatures that aimlessly wander around your driveway, then one of your top safety priorities will be to concern your pets’ safety from your garage door.
Here are a few quick tricks that can help you achieve this:
1. Firstly, it’s important that give your garage doors reverse system a once over, this involves checking that it opens as soon as it meets any obstruction. The easiest way to do this would be to put a stool under your garage door so that its clearly obstructed. Instruct your garage door to close and check to see if the garage door successfully reverses before it meets the object. If it doesn’t work…then I’m sorry to say but you may need to get yourself a new stool.
2. Another important test you should carry out is to check your garage doors motion detection system. This is really simple to do and involves you standing in front of your garage door (in the driveway) whilst instructing the door to close. However, whilst your door is closing kick a football towards the door so check if the motion detection beam lets it pass. If your garage door is working as it should then the door should instantly stop and reverse. If the garage door continues to close then your pets are in some serious trouble
3. Make sure your pets stay clear from the garage door cables; this involves playing or chewing on them. The cables are dangerous if played with and could seriously harm your pets.
4. Do not tie your pet to your garage door – even if it’s for a short while whilst you run some errands and nip to the grocery shop. Unfortunately, it only takes a couple of seconds for an incident to occur. If you feel the need to tie up your pet then please do so safely with the advice and reliable options provided from an official pet shop.
Worried about safety? Give us a Call!
If you want to be extra careful grab yourself a flashlight and give the track doors a once over, be sure to check for any obstructions such as stones, debris or dried paint. If you do come across anything then simply remove them without force! If you put any excess weight or force on the track doors then you could be seriously putting yourself at risk.
